Saudi Arabia is escorting a major convoy of Saudi Arabian troops into Lebanon’s southern border with Bahrain, the military said.
The troops are being held by Lebanese forces as part of a military push to retake the border region.
The move is a signal of a shift in Saudi Arabia, which has been backing Bahraini forces in a bid to stem the growth of pro-Iranian militias in the impoverished southern province of Lattakia.
Saudi Arabia has repeatedly sent its own forces into the disputed areas.
The kingdom has been conducting military operations in Bahrain since January, when it intervened militarily to support the Saudi-led military campaign against Iran-backed Shiite rebels in Yemen.
